Instead of destroying it, ISIS is using Palmyra's ancient amphitheater as an execution site

Islamic State militants claim they have not damaged the priceless ruins of the ancient city of Palmyra, despite reportedly executing 20 people in its famous amphitheater.

According to a report from the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights activist group, 20 regime fighters and supporters were shot and killed in the Roman ruins since May 20

The group entered the ancient city of Palmyra in the Syrian province of Homs last week after seizing control of a neighboring town from Syrian regime forces. That sparked fears from the international community that they planned to destroy the priceless 2,000 year old site. Read more...
