Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras announced an unexpected referendum early Saturday morning, giving the indebted country's people a chance to accept or refuse the bailout deal offered by international creditors Thursday.
In a televised speech, Tsipras called the bailout deal "blackmail" and an "ultimatum that contravenes the founding principles and values of Europe." His recommendation to the people of Greece is to vote "no," but he will respect any outcome of the vote, he said
