Don't believe those rumors: LG isn't acquiring Meerkat

Despite some weird trademark filings, LG has not acquired Meerkat.

News that the Korean electronics giant may have acquired the streaming video started to swirl after Phandroid uncovered a trademark filed by LG for an application called, "Meerkat."

The trademark seems to be for an application that would work as an IP camera, closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera and for surveillance.

But not to fear: Ben Rubin, CEO and founder of Meerkat, tweeted that the official comment from his team is that this is just a joke.
